The greatest challenge to increasing vaccination for COVID-19 will be vaccinating children. This is especially a problem facing the African American community. This article presents an extensive review of the data supporting the importance of doing so. The author looks at 3 issues. First are children at risk for the disease? Second, are children at risk for severe infection? Finally, does getting the disease in unvaccinated children result in immunity from reinfection?
Why This Is Important: This is a commentary based on a recent study. It summarizes why children should be vaccinated. My experience suggests that many providers are not convinced that children, especially young children should be vaccinated. This is an important contribution to the discussion. Any provider should review it.
