Every year on May 20th, Clinical Trials Day recognizes the people who participate in clinical research and the healthcare professionals working to advance medicine through science. The observance commemorates the first randomized clinical trial conducted by Scottish physician James Lind in 1747, which helped identify a treatment for scurvy.
Today, clinical trials continue to play a critical role in developing new treatments, improving patient care, and reducing health disparities. Clinical Trials Day also serves as a reminder of the importance of diverse participation in research to ensure medical advancements are safe and effective for everyone, including Black communities that have historically been underrepresented in clinical studies.
